How long have you been running?
I started my running journey in October 2015. I had my daughter in March 2015 and needed something to help get back “me”. Running is something I can do with my little monster. It has taught me so much about myself and is great for stress! I have the mind set of go big and push yourself.
Please list your favorite races and PR’s
Favorite: I think all races and “runs” have something special about them. I have really enjoyed the trail races I have done and now really getting into the Ultras.
What are your 2017 Racing plans and running goals?
My overall goal is to stay healthy and happy while smashing my other goals.
I have completed:
The Cow Run
The Sweetheart Fun Run
Badger Mountain Challenge 100 miler
Ragnar Turtle Bay
PR my 5k
And whatever else someone ask me to run!
Any “bucket list” races?
I would really love to complete the HURT 100 and The Barkley! For road races I want to run a Rock’n Roll Marathon, Dopey Challenge, and the Marine Corps Marathon.
What is your average weekly mileage?
My mileage is all over the place. Usually I am between 25-50 miles. It’s hard to get all the training in with a baby, but I do what I can when I can.
What is your favorite workout?
I have a love/hate with hills. While I am doing the hill workouts I feel like death, but during my cooldown I feel like I am on top of the world. Like I can accomplish anything I want to! Like a total badass.
Favorite pre-race/post-race foods
I don’t carb load! I eat whatever is for dinner, I don’t eat same the same thing each time, I do stay away from high fiber foods!! One bad habit I have is over hydrating before my races, so I will have a couple salt pills and a pickle pop!
During my races I really love oranges, but tend munch on whatever my body is telling me to.
The after party! I usually celebrate with a drink or five, then pig out! I’m talking cake, pancakes, bacon, pizza!!
What is the piece of running gear/food/drink that you cannot go without?
Obviously water is one, I also need some type of electrolytes sometimes is salt pills, sometimes Skratch, and if all else fails Gatorade. Injinji toe socks have saved my feet! Vaseline is a new found favorite. I also always have my watch, headphones and music. Music pulls me up my walls when they hit. I wear a visor every run. My glasses bounces if I don’t, and hats are too hot! And last but not least GUM!! I have to chew gum while I run.
What is your favorite running moment or running quote?
I have few. During the Cow Run I started yelling at the grass. When I run long distances I start finding humor in all types of things! Every run I do has good times, bad times and a lesson.
If you want it, you got to work for it.
Come on legs we got this.
It’s all mental.
Describe your running before HRL and after.
Before I started running with HRL I was either over or under training. I didn’t know much about running, I was fighting common injuries like shin splits, my form was messed up, and I wasn’t really having fun while running. Now, I am injury free, I enjoy running, I love being out on the course and seeing all the other HRL athletes, it gives me a boost. My form is so much better which leads to better runs. I’m much confident in my running.
Why does training with Hawaii Running Lab work for you?
I love how HRL pushes me past what I think I can accomplish. Remembering back to the Tantalus Triple Trek I thought there was no way in hell I was going to get 2 full laps, let alone the entire race. I hadn’t trained for it, and this was a last minute decision. With Michael’s help and advice, I was able to finish with an hour to spare. Some of the workouts and long runs I have had to do during my training I thought Michael was trying to kill me, but I made it through each one and got stronger every run. Seeing how much progress I have made without injury is unbelievable and it’s all thanks to HRL’s guidance. It’s awesome being able to ask questions whenever I need to about a run or race coming up.
