Tell us a little about yourself…

Hi I’m Ed. I currently live on island part time. I was born and raised in California and have been traveling to Oahu multiple times a year. Last year, I decided to eventually make the move to Oahu and am spending more time here each month.

How long have you been running?

I have been running since 2007 probably. My first race was the Nike Human Race 10K in 2008 at Nike headquarters.

Please list your favorite races and PR’s

My favorite races have been the Hapalua and San Jose Rock & Roll. My PR for the half was 1hour 53 minutes. That was many years and pounds ago lol.

What are your 2020 Racing plans and running goals?

I have quite a running schedule for 2020 with most of them on Oahu or a neighboring island. I hope to run the Honolulu Marathon in under 5 hours this year.

Any “bucket list” races?

The Tokyo, Yokohama, or Great Wall marathons have crossed my mind.

What is your average weekly mileage?

About 15-20 miles for now.

What is your favorite workout?

Kickboxing. It’s what got me started running. I would always have to cut weight so I ran. I run more than I do any kickboxing nowadays.

Favorite pre-race/post-race foods

Pre-race: Pizza. Who doesn’t like pizza? Post-race: pancakes or loco moco or sushi. I love food. One of the reasons of why I run.

What is the piece of running gear/food/drink that you cannot go without?

Headphones. Gotta have my beats.

What is your favorite running moment or running quote?

Not really a running quote but it can be….since there’s no shortcuts with running.

Describe your running before HRL and after. How have you improved and which PR’s have dropped?

I used to just get out to run and increase my mileage. Sometimes I would gradually increase mileage leading up to a run or just get out there and do it. Then I tore my hamstring. I just started HRL so no PRs yet but now I have focus and milestone goals. So far so good.

Why does training with Hawaii Running Lab work for you?

It gives me a chance to be part of a community on the island. To meet new people with a similar interests, maybe similar goals. I have long time friends on island but they’re not really into being in shape and working out.
